There are many great Canadian writers to choose from—Margaret Atwood (The Handmaid’s Tale, The Blind Assassin), Yann Martel (Life of Pi), Michael Ondaatje (The English Patient), and so on.
But if I had to pick just one book, I would unhesitatingly go with my childhood favorite: Anne of Green Gables by Lucy Maud Montgomery.

The coming-of-age story of a precocious orphan girl in the idyllic rural town on Prince Edward Island (Canada) has captivated generations. It’s one of the very few books I’ve reread multiple times—even well into adulthood—for its sheer charm, beautiful writing, and gentle optimism.
