Assorted tales of comic fiction – edited by Peter Haining
I always appreciate an entertaining or thought-provoking story-line and I got plenty of those as I read the ‘The Flying Sorcerers’. A motley collection of humorous fantasy fiction tales with a mix of both science fiction and the supernatural.
What makes the book really special is:
A) It has the earlier works of some of the best names in the business – Terry Pratchett, Arthur Clarke, PG Wodehouse ( I was surprised too!!), CS Lewis to list a few
B) Every story begins with a little background on storytelling in that genre and its interesting to learn more about authors and literature in that category
C) And lastly but most importantly is the collection of stories itself. Loosely classified under ‘Comic tales of fantasy’, each story is written with a sense of irony or humor. No story takes itself too seriously and therein lies the entertainment.
The book has a collection of around 30 stories. The more remarkable ones being Turntables of the night, A Slice of Life, Dance Macabre, The Right Side, The Shrink and the Mink, The Man in Asbestos and From Gustible’s Planet.
Verdict
Buy it if you enjoy fantasy fiction.

I dont know why I bought this book but for some reason I could get through it so abandoned it mid-way. Yes if you are looking for entertainment without story then Terry Pratchett books are good.
I actually quite enjoyed the book…kind of funny and enteraining
